Like many iconic classic watches, it all started for a practical reason.

The history of the Submariner goes back to the early 1950s. René-Paul Jeanneret, director of Rolex and scuba-diving addict, challenged himself to develop a real professional diver’s watch. In 1953, the Submariner was born, the first water-resistant to 100 m (300 ft) watch, with a 60-minute graduated rotating bezel to calculate dive or decompression times.

The first major changes were made with the release of the fabulous reference 5513 launched in 1962 and produced until 1989.

A real partnership was born between Rolex and Comex (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertise), a company specialized in engineering and the underwater world. Rolex then manufactured watches especially for Comex, the company of the extreme.

The presented model here is an extremely rare Pre-Comex. The writings, logo and indications are exactly the same as for the models proposed to Comex later on. This model was only produced in 1977 and 1978, with a serial number higher than 5.000.000. As for our copy, it is from 1977.

Stainless steel round case of 40 mm diameter, black dial with luminescent round indexes.

This essential unique piece can make an entry in the collection of diver’s watches.

Rare occurrence, it is proposed with its original box and papers. An exceptional full set not to be missed.
