The Rolex Submariner reference 5512 was launched in 1959, it remains important in the Submariner chronology. It is the first Submariner to be equipped with crown guards to protect the crown. The previous reference, the 5508, has a case diameter about 38 mm, whereas the 5512 one is larger: 40 mm. Another point is that the first 5512 produced have square crown guards, then it became pointed crown guards. The first versions have the Gilt dial, a lacquered dial and golden writings. The first dials are lined with a railroad timer called « Chapter Ring ».

The model presented here is a superb second generation of 5512 reference from 1960. It is a 40 mm diameter round stainless steel case with pointed crown guards and a 60 mn graduated black bezel. Magnificent black lacquered dial. Mercedes hands and central second hand. Self-winding mechanical movement.
