The rolex GMT-Master is one of the most iconic watches in the history of watchmaking, whose different colors have earned it some nice nicknames.
A legendary watch that has travelled the globe on the wrist of airplane pilots.
At the height of the civil aviation boom, Pan Am, an airline operator created in 1926, contacted Rolex in order to design a precise watch for aviators, allowing the simultaneous display of several time zones, as airplane journeys covered more and more distance over several time zones. Rolex creates the GMT-Master which has a fourth hand that turns the dial in 24 hours to determine whether it is morning or afternoon for the time set to the chosen time zone.
The model of GMT-Master presented here is very rare, reference 1675 from 1961. It is a stainless steel round case of 40 mm diameter, with a magnificent 24 hour graduated blue and red « pepsi »bezel. Screwed crown and case back. Pointed crown guards. Superb black lacquered “gilt” dial with luminescent painted round indexes. Mercedes hands, central second hand and 2nd time zone arrow hand. Exclamation point at 6. Date window at 3. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer certified.
This angel from heaven is adored by pilots and globetrotters, and is an emblematic collectible watch.
