ROLEX GMT REF. 1675 LONG E TROPICAL
Fine and very rare stainless steel self winding wristwatch with 2 time zones, tropical dial.
As early as the 1950s, intercontinental flights began to appear in aviation, with planes flying across several time zones. A watch capable of informing pilots is absolutely necessary.
It is in 1954 that Rolex proposes the GMT-Master. A watch intended for the pilots and flight crew of PANAM, the largest airline company at that time, a serious customer for Rolex.
This precious timepiece allows, thanks to an additional hand and a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel, to instantly read a second time zone.
The watch is warmly welcomed by the general public, as at last one watch is dedicated to globetrotters.
A different and attractive Rolex, a true myth that is still being watchmade today.
This reference 1675 has a round stainless steel case of 40 mm diameter with screwed crown and case back, surmounted by a 24-hour graduated red and blue bezel, hence the name “Pepsi”.
This rare model has a particularity, it is nicknamed “Long E”, meaning that the horizontal bars of the letter “E” of Rolex are of the same size.
A brown dial, called tropical, with luminescent round indexes. Mercedes hands and central second hand. Date window at 3. Plexiglas glass with magnifying lens. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer certified.
