In 1965, NASA officially selected the Speedmaster as the watch of the American astronauts on the Apollo mission.
On July 21st 1969, the astronauts of Apollo 11 set foot on the Moon.
What an advertisement for Omega, the only watch to meet NASA’s complex specifications, and finds itself on Neil Armstrong’s wrist on D-Day.
The speedmaster becomes the spearhead of the manufacture. Created in 1957 under the reference CK2915, it is still manufactured today almost identical to the original model.
It is a 41 mm diameter stainless steel round case with a black epoxy bezel and a tachymetric scale on it. It also has a black 3-register dial with indexes and baton hands.
The movement is necessarily manual-winding mechanical, no self-winding in space. It is the caliber 861.
A perfectly successful alchemy, a historical classic is born. The speedmaster still seduces as much the amateurs of legendary watches. A perfect size for a chronograph, a sober and efficient design.
