In 1926, a major step was taken with the creation of the first water and dustproof watch. Named Oyster, this watch with a hermetic case, like a safe-deposit box, guarantees optimal protection of the movement and the dial. In 1927, the young English swimmer crossed the English Channel with an Oyster at her wrist . The crossing lasted more than 10 hours and the watch came out intact and in perfect working order. In 1931, Rolex developed a self-winding system with a central rotor that allows to wind the watch by the simple movement of the wrist. An ingenious creation that changed the course of watchmaking history. The year 1945 saw the launch of the Datejust, the first self-winding wristwatch with date function.
The Datejust is equipped with a jubilee bracelet created especially for it and a fluted bezel. A prestigious watch is born.
The model presented here is a very rare Datejust with the UAE coat of arms, United Arab Emirates. This one from 1984 is in perfect condition. It is a round stainless steel case of 36 mm diameter, fluted solid gold bezel, gold and steel jubilee bracelet. Gold dial with white writings, applied baton markers. Straight hands and central seconds hand. Self-winding mechanical movement, certified chronometer.
This collector’s item is an uncommon pure vintage, a unique watch that marks the history of Datejust.
