In 1905, Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis founded a manufacturing company in London called “Wilsdorf & Davis” specialized in watch parts. The majority of the production was done in Switzerland: the Swiss know-how had no competition in the field of watchmaking. From the beginning of its activity Wilsdorf specializes in the luxury niche. One of the flagship models in the firm’s catalog is the famous Explorer. A watch designed to withstand the weather and the hostile environments that the explorer adventurers go through during their expeditions. Sir Edmund Hillary decides to participate in an expedition that will take him to the summit of the world: Mount Everest at 8848 m. He chooses the Explorer model to accompany him on this perilous and historic journey.
The model presented here is the reference 1016, one of the most sought-after. This one dates back to 1974 and is in very good condition.
It is a round stainless steel case of 36 mm diameter. A black dial with the numbers 3, 6, 9 which characterizes all Explorer 1 models. Mercedes hands usually present on sport models. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer certified.
This is a unique historical watch, a chic and elegant sports timepiece. A watch always present in the catalog with the same DNA. A watch to collect first.
