ROLEX GMT MASTER Ref. 6542
In the 1950s, Flights became intercontinental. This implies the need for pilots to be able to evaluate time zones.
Rolex did not miss the boat and offered Pan Am airlines its first GMT-Master in 1954.
The concept is simple, a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel and an additional hand, the GMT hand will simply indicate the local time on a 24h scale. By turning the bezel it is possible to choose the time zone that you wish.
Pilots, globetrotters and the general public, are charmed and conquered by this model made mythical and historical.
The presented model here is the origin of the GMT-Master, the fabulous reference 6542.
It has a 40 mm diameter stainless steel round case.
A magnificent black lacquered dial with luminescent indexes which have taken on a very beautiful patina that fits perfectly with the set of Mercedes hands.
A date window at 3, a plexiglas glass with magnifying lens.
The most astonishing remains this beautiful red and blue Bakelite bezel in excellent original condition.
The bracelet is original stainless steel Oyster riveted.
Self-winding mechanical movement, certified chronometer.
Here is a legend in perfect condition, a rare bakelite model which looked good on the wrists of intercontinental pilots.
