ROLEX GMT MASTER TROPICAL REF. 1675
Fine and very rare stainless steel self winding pilot wristwatch with tropical dial and date.
When Hans Wilsdorf signed his contract with PAN AM, he had no idea that this was the beginning of a truly amazing career for the GMT-Master.
The first watch to offer the reading of a second time zone, thanks to its additional hand and a 24-hour bezel.
The first model was born in 1954 under the reference 6542.
But the reference 1675 appears in 1959, the one that will make the model mythical and iconic.
On their intercontinental flights, the PAN AM pilots could not fly without the GMT-Master but also the travelling Businessmen who had to have a time reference in relation to Greenwich Mean Time.
The proposed model is a rare reference 1675. A round stainless steel case of 40 mm diameter, with a 24-hour brown rotating bezel. A superb brown “Tropical” dial, with luminescent painted indexes. Date window at 3, plexiglas glass with magnifying lens. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer-certified.
This unique piece from 1963 is simply superb.
The GMT-Master is clearly part of aviation history.
The rising popularity of this model range, ensures a bright future for it.
