ROLEX OYSTER DATE REF. 1500
Fine stainless steel self-winding wristwatch with blue dial and date
After having solved the reliability problem, Hans Wilsdorf then began to work on the second defect of the watches at the time, the dust and humidity that infiltrate under the dial and through the crown and damage the movement. To remedy this, the brand developed and produced the Oyster model on November 24th, 1926: the first water-resistant watch with a revolutionary crown.
However, at the time consumers remained sceptical about the ability of a watch to be completely water-resistant. As a demonstration, Rolex installed water-filled aquariums containing Oyster watches in the windows of its main point of sales. This advertising campaign then creates significant public recognition.
The model presented here is an Oyster date, reference 1500 from 1966.
It is a stainless steel round case of 34 mm diameter. Screwed crown and case back. Beautiful blue dial with applied stick indexes. Date window at 3. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer certified, a guarantee of reliability and precision.
A great classic of the brand, chic and elegant.
It will be able to join your collection of remarkable watches.
