ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE REF. 1501 SERPICO Y LAINO
Fine stainless steel self-winding wristwatch with silver dial and date. By Serpico y Laino
The Rolex reference 1501 is probably the most accomplished classic watch from Rolex.
Pure and elegant lines with an Oyster case which makes it water-resistant thanks to its screwed case back and crown.
The 1501 is at the height of classicism, a sober model with a strong character.
This particular model is sold by the Serpico y Laino company, a famous retailer of luxury watches located in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
Hans Wilsdorf made the trip on the spot to offer exclusive distribution of the brand sale, that is why there is the double signature on the dial.
The model presented here is from 1962. It has a stainless steel round case of 34 mm diameter, with a screw-down crown and case-back. Superb striped bezel, marked every 5 minutes, is an integral part of the successful aesthetics of the model. Silver dial with applied stick indexes. Leaf-shaped hands with central second hand, date window at 3 and plexiglas glass with magnifying lens. Self-winding mechanical movement.
The riveted Oyster bracelet is the original one.
Thanks to this model, Rolex has been able to enrich its catalogue of classic Oyster watches for decades.
An emblematic watch much appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts.
