Rolex stood out in marketing terms by lending a model called Oyster to Mercedes Gleitze, for its 1927 swim across the English Channel.

Hans Wilsdorf, founder of the brand, communicated on this feat by publishing a full-page headline in the Daily Mail proclaiming the success of the first water-resistant watch and announcing “the triumphant march of the Rolex Oyster around the world”.

Rolex will continue to improve its screw-down crown and case-back models to offer to the public and professionals, watches that can reach the depths of the oceans.

The Rolex reference 6424 is a Oyster Precision like no other, a watch produced between the early 1950s and the late 1960s.

Simplicity of the dial and readability, thinness and elegance of the case, these are characteristics still appreciated today.

The model ref. 6424 presented here is from 1965.

It is a stainless steel round case of 34 mm diameter.

Grey dial with applied stick indexes.

Leaf-shaped hands and central second hand.

Hand-wound mechanical movement.

This is a beautiful example of sobriety and spontaneity, a fantastic model to wear, with a moving simplicity that plays a winning hand in seduction.
