In 1967, the first Submariner with the date appears and indicates on the dial a watertight to 200 m. Three dials will be produced for what we will call the “meter first”, respectively Mark 1, Mark 2, Mark 3.
The presented model here is a Mark 1, only produced between 1969 and 1970.
The first submariner is created in 1953, the only water resistant diver’s watch at 100 m, a world first, as well as a 60 mn graduated bezel to calculate dive and decompression times.
The references follow one another until the appearance of the 1680, an emblematic reference of the brand which is manufactured until the 1980s. Then came the 16800 transition model with a radical change: plexiglas glass replaced by sapphire crystal.
The first 1680 for the North American market had the submariner writing in red (called red), this is the case of the 1969 model presented here.
It is a stainless steel round case of 40 mm diameter with screwed crown and case back. Beautiful black dial with luminescent painted round indexes. Mercedes hands and central second hand. Date window at 3 with a magnifying lens for a better reading. Self-winding mechanical movement, chronometer certified.
This queen of the seas is one of the must-haves in the history of diving, adored by divers and the general public.
