Yema is a French watch brand that was successful between the 1960’s and 1980’s.

It became famous for its sports watches models, and was associated with numerous expeditions to demonstrate its know-how until it became for a time, an official supplier of the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES).

The brand was created in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont, major of his graduating class at the National School of Watchmaking in 1931. First, he was director at Lip, then he recruited young people to found his own brand. In 1953, in view of the success of the competition’s diving watches, Yema proposed a watch waterproof to 660 ft (200 m) for a lower price. In 1961, with annual sales of 300,000 watches, Yema, thanks to its success, moved into a new and larger building.

The Yema model presented here is the amazing Yachtingraph Croisière, a model adored by the brand’s enthusiasts.

It is a round stainless steel case of 39 mm diameter, black bezel inverted 60 mn graduated. Black dial with three counters including the oversized regatta start counter. Manual-winding mechanical movement, the caliber valjoux 7736.

This is one of the watchmaking legends of one of the most beautiful French houses of the time, a singular model recognizable at first glance.

A mythical watch to collect first.
