Created in 1832, Longines is proud to be the oldest registered watchmaking brand in the world. Throughout its history, the company has developed a dual approach combining classic shapes and precise calibres. The Swiss Agassiz family from the village of Agrez, close to Neuchatel Lake, is the starting point of Longines. If the two scientists, Louis and Alexander Agassiz have left their mark on its history, it is Auguste Agassiz who will be remembered by posterity for his watchmaking work.

In 1832, Auguste Agassiz joined forces with a watchmaking company in St Imier, which soon became Agassiz & Compagnie. In 1850 the company was taken over by his nephew Ernest Francillon, who decided to open a factory in order to improve production by assembling and finishing watches at the same place. It was done in 1866, on a piece of land called « Les Longines », which gave its name to the winged hourglass brand.

The Longines model presented here is a spectacular and magnificent classic watch called Cioccolatone. This watch is very well known to collectors and enthusiasts. It is a 18k yellow solid gold square curvex case with stylised lugs. Magnificent black lacquered dial with gold applied epis indexes. Leaf-shaped hands and central second hand. Self-winding mechanical movement.

This fabulous top-of-the-range timepiece is a flagship model which has seduced the general public at the time, a watch to be collected first.
