- Technical datas
In 1957, Omega launched a trio of watches consisting of the Seamaster 300, the Railmaster and the Speedmaster reference CK2915, which have since become icons of the brand. The Speedmaster was first conceived as a sports chronograph inspired by the dashboards of Italian sports cars in the 1950’s. With its curved lugs, black dial and wide arrow hands, this watch has a sporty look.
When it was launched, the Speedmaster was the first chronograph wristwatch in the world to have a tachymeter scale on the bezel, not on the dial. Omega approached NASA to present the watch, which will go down in history. Chosen for its performance and the success of all the advanced tests, it officially becomes part of the astronaut package in 1965. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin wear the Speedmaster in 1969 for the first steps on the Moon.
The model presented here is a modern Speedmaster, inspired by the second generation: the reference CK2998. This one from 2016 is manufactured in limited edition. It is a round stainless steel case of 39.7 mm diameter. White dial with three blue counters, luminescent hands. Manual-winding mechanical movement.
This is a superb timepiece that has its own character and continues the history of the Speedmaster with panache.
It is sold with its original box and papers.
