From the late 1950’s, the space conquest and the duel between the Americans and the Soviets had become a worldwide focus.

The first astronauts who remained in their capsule (Mercury program) used common watches.

With the Gemini program the astronauts had to get out of the capsule and they needed an autonomous timepiece that could withstand space environnement.

Omega then offered the historic Speedmaster, which was the only one watch to pass NASA’s demanding tests:

– High temperature.

– Low temperature.

– Vacuum temperature cycle.

– Humidity.

– Oxygen-rich environment.

– Shock.

– High pressure etc.

The speedmaster becomes officially part of the 1965 astronauts’ equipment for future space missions.

The model presented here is from 2017. It is a modern version of the speedmaster and nicknamed « Tintin » due to the red and white dial which reminds the rocket of the comic book « Tintin and the Explorers on the Moon ».

It is a stainless steel round case of 42 mm diameter. An original black dial with luminescent stick indexes. Chronograph with three registers. Manual-winding mechanical movement.

This is the most emblematic chronograph in the history of the space conquest, it ensures lasting durability for Omega.

This model in mint condition is a strong link in the speedmaster range.

It is proposed with its original box and papers.

A full set not to be missed.
