The first AirKing reference was created in 1945, under reference 4363, a hand-wound mechanical model with a small second hand at 6 o’clock, in honor of RAF pilots. We also heard of the reference 4925 with central seconds-hand. Other references followed the first Air King, until the appearance of the 5500 model, which marked a real change: it was equipped with a central second hand and a mechanical self-winding movement. In 1957, the famous 5500 was introduced, closely resembling the 6552. If this reference is familiar to most people, this explains its 37-year lifespan. To dethrone the 5500’s long reign, the Air King 14000 appeared in 1989, with sapphire crystal replacing Plexiglas.
The model on offer is a beautiful 1997 Air King in superb condition. It’s a round steel case, 34 mm in diameter. Magnificent salmon dial with the famous 3,6,9 Explorer dial. Straight hands and central second hand. Self-winding mechanical movement.
